Since 1971, Odyssey has emerged as the leading and most respected substance abuse provider in the State of Utah. Odyssey boasts the largest continuum of care for individuals to access at any level of need, with robust support programming. Services are provided in multiple settings to teens, adults, mothers with children, and fathers with children. Odyssey staff is mission driven and positively affects tens of thousands of lives. Five years ago, Odyssey House voluntarily sought Joint Commission Accreditation and invited the monitoring agency to help improve service delivery. This outside contractor is known for monitoring all hospitals throughout the nation, and is considered the gold standard in performance evaluation. Although much of Odyssey’s programming was in place before accreditation, our agency now operates verified, evidence based, best practice treatment models in a safe and supportive environment. Successfully obtaining this accreditation shows we provide the highest possible level of care. Our services are now considered among an elite 8% of the best behavioral health agencies in the nation.
Odyssey staff specializes in treating co-occurring disorders that typically accompany addiction. These may include mental health issues, poor work history, negative behaviors, ill health, fractured support systems, lack of housing, and incomplete education. Odyssey provides short and long term addiction treatment within residential and outpatient settings. Odyssey operates supporting programs that address education, job skills, psychiatric services, healthcare, sober housing, behavioral management, and aftercare support to ensure lifelong success. Odyssey is classified as a Co-Occurring Enhanced, Complexity Capable program by the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Our Programs utilize protocols specific to each population and employ best practice interventions highlighted by the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Treatment Practice Guidelines. Additionally, Odyssey is becoming a Trauma-Informed System of Care. Clinicians are proficient in Motivational Interviewing (MI), contingency management, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and a variety of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) models including Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). Therapists use specific trauma therapies including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as well as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and those working with female survivors use Seeking Safety. These are all best practices within the National Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Treatment Improvement Protocols.
Odyssey has exhibited exemplary success in treating the individuals we serve. Each program monitors successful completion rates weekly to ensure we are providing the tools needed to change peoples lives. Odyssey is currently experiencing success far surpassing national averages. For example, Odyssey’s Outpatient success rate is 27% above national levels. Additionally, Odyssey staff established an aggressive goal to obtain success rates mirroring those of 4-day detox programs. To date, many Odyssey programs are already meeting this goal, and our remaining programs are well on their way to hitting the target by year’s end. Outcomes are collected on a quarterly basis and appear on our website at www.odysseyhouse.org/success. Financially, Odyssey House has been incredibly successful in diversifying revenue and keeping treatment costs affordable. Odyssey’s costs are not only well below for-profit service providers, but are even lower than other local non-profit providers. This offers a tremendous savings to individuals and families, especially when factoring in the high quality of care. Odyssey maintains several in network contracts with reputable government and insurance companies. Maintaining their trust is an earned privilege and they observe we demonstrate integrity in business and provide effective affordable care.
